Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Paul Lambert has insisted that Manchester United loanee Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is a talented youngster who trains well, although he hasn’t been giving him minutes.
The 19-year-old joined Wolves on a season-long loan over the summer transfer window but is yet to feature under Paul Lambert, who became boss at the start of November.
Before Lambert’s arrival Borthwick-Jackson had started six of Wolves’ first 16 league encounters, but he could now be set for an early return to Old Trafford.
Lambert said, as reported by the Express and Star: “Cameron’s obviously on loan here and hasn’t really featured under me, just because I felt we needed a bit more experience. He’s a young lad, a tidy and nice footballer and he’s got to fight for his way to get into the side. But he never lets himself down in training.
“He trains well. Come January, Kevin Thelwell and myself will start to get the squad we think can help. There’s been no official decision on Cameron and wont be for another few weeks.”
Lambert has won one of his first three league games in charge and saw his side beat Queens Park Ramgers 2-1 last time out.
Borthwick-Jackson enjoyed a run in the United first under Louis van Gaal last season and looked a promising full back while showcasing his ability to snap into tackles and deliver inviting crosses at the other end of the pitch.
The Englishman, who was United’s Young Player of the Year last term, has been named in United’s provisional Europa League squad for next year.
